Natalie’s Ark is a Christian chapter book for middle grades to early teens. The story begins with the introduction of a very stubborn, independent Natalie who ion her thirteenth birthday announces to everyone at her school that she is no longer afraid of anything. Almost immediately, the young girl’s statement is tested as a huge storm passes over her hometown of Ferville. The torrential rains are so bad that the dam bursts and Natalie is swept away by waves of water. Natalie calls to God for help and realizes that her journey is “a journey to be navigated by faith, not by fear”.
The girl’s adventure basically follows Natalie as she tries to get back home. Along the way, she meets a variety of animal friends that give the young girl much food for thought. Many of these animals have no home or are not wanted at home. These situations and Natalie’s journey lead the reader to examine what really makes a home. The story also reinforces that God is the key to finding one’s way home.
