Vanity of Vanities

Reviewed by Dr. Tami Brady

Vanity of Vanities takes place in 1181 A.D. on the island of Vanar, several hundred miles off the northwest coast of Spain. This island contains three kingdoms: Rorq, Devlorn, and the Vanarian Wasteland. The later had been taken over by Reymus, the envious, power hungry, younger brother of King Marcus Vorigern ruler of Rorq. The story begins just as word reaches Rorq and Devlorn that Reymus is intending to take over the rest of the island of Vanar.

Vanity of Vanities is a complexly woven web of lies, deceit, and cross kingdom relations. It also has several substories including the unexpected connection of these three kingdoms and a farm boy named Joshua. Just like any good fantasy adventure, this story has lots of action, intrigue, and several interesting twists and turns. Those that really like to get into the politics of such situations will be extremely impressed with the well thought out interactions.
