The Birth of Spring
Sheri L. McGathy
Double Dragon Publishing
Fiction, Fantasy, Science Fiction
Reviewed by Eugen Bacon |
The Winter King has stayed the wheel; the Summer Queen must bring war. Sheri L. McGathy’s affirm her place in the realm of fantasy writing with The Birth of Spring. Astara, a young royal, journeys through a sea of ice, pelted with incessant beads of snow, her effort to repeal the folly of a young Winter King. 'The Birth of Spring' reminds me in more ways than one of the enchantment of George R. R. Martin. It is a tale that much 'wishes told', one that unfurls the realms of Faery swathed in a smog of time. I read this tale, written for young adults, with immense pleasure and look forward to more work from this author. Sheri L. McGathy is a fine story teller. Her writing cannot be rushed. So curl up in a warm blanket, clasp a cup of tea and succumb to the magical veil of fantasy.
