Extremophile is a futuristic sci fi novel that makes you take a hard look at the world we live in today and where it is leading us. The setting is extremely realistic because the problems that these people are dealing with stem from social, technological, and moral issues the world is beginning to face today. They are troubled with climate changes, population increase, and exploding technological advances. In this version of the future, Bruce Roberts is traveling the globe to find extemeophiles. These are bugs that are used to produce a formula to make an elixir of youth. This elixir, which is sought after by the rich and powerful, puts Bruce and his companions in a dangerous position. There are those who want to control the formula for their own personal gain, and those who want to destroy its existence. This book is an intense journey into one possible future; it contains strong violence, graphic sexual situations, and is definitely a book for mature readers. It really brings home the fact that we daily make decisions that are shaping the course of our future. I found this book to be extremely well written, action packed, riveting, sensual, and at times deeply thought provoking and disturbing. The author’s expertise in science is evident that makes the story even more immersive and impressive. This book puts me in the mind of the style of other great futuristic novels such as: Orwell’s 1984 or Huxley’s Brave New World. Definitely a story that makes you think as well as it entertains.
