Western Philosophy is a comparison of western and eastern philosophies from an eastern point of view. In this work, the author shares his frustration that many western philosophers who tend to use large texts full of obscure words that cover up the fact that they never really say anything specific. He states that often such philosopher start with a straightforward question requiring a yes or no answer but that even after writing hundreds of pages of text the answer is never really stated nor does the information ever describe how the philosopher came to a conclusion, likely because no conclusion was reached.
I have to say that despite the author’s arguments, I do enjoy and value the works of the old Greek masters. Personally, I like to study these works not for the ultimate truths but because they drive me to find my own answers to my own questions. Nonetheless, I do have to agree that we as a western society often arbitrarily place a value on a philosophical work according to its wordiness rather than if it actually answers a question.
