Places of the Reformation, as the title suggests, examines a number of German locations where important events in the Protestant Reformation were located. For each of these towns, the author identifies its location and significance to the Reformation. In several instances, the author also identifies additional historical background illustrating the religious and historical significances of these locations even before the events of the Protestant Reformation. Of special interest are Eisenach (where Martin Luther was educated and where he hid out after his excommunication), Eisleben (where Luther was born, baptised, and died), Wittenberg (where Luther was a professor of Theology and where he nailed his 95 theses on the castle church door), and Worms (location of the Diet of Worms where Luther was declared a heretic and an outlaw).
Places of the Reformation is a good straight forward, easy to follow reference material for the locations and major events of the reformation, combining material often scattered or complicated by a lot of rhetoric. Moreover, the author explains the religious and historical background of some of these places, giving the reader insight into why these places were chosen as the stage for these important world changing events. Places of the Reformation serves as a good reference and starting point for personal interest or research into the events of the Protestant Reformation.
