Anger and Anxiety: Be in charge of your emotions and control phobias, as the title suggests, is a self-help guide to coping with anger and anxiety. In this book, the author states that anger and anxiety are emotions and reactions to habitual, conditioned patterns of thought based primarily upon fear. These conditioned, habitual patterns are created as the result of a negative experience, behaviour learned through modeling, deep inner childhood anxieties, or the unintentional rewarding of a fear. In order to understand these responses, one must examine the ABCs: antecedent, behaviour, and consequences. Then, using counter conditioning techniques such as progressive muscular relaxation or guided imagery.
Anger and Anxiety is an easy to use straight forward guide to fear and all its manifestations. The author not only sets out easy to understand information in each chapter but also includes various stories illustrating some of the more important points of the book assuring that the reader completely understands each concept. This book also sets out a number of reasonable realistic ways of coping with fear. In this way, the author acknowledges that various techniques work for various individuals. Moreover, this book includes a section on people who can aid and support the reader in his or her goals of counter conditioning his or her habitual reactions to fear.
