How Wireless Works

ISBN 0-7897-3344-7
Non-Fiction, Technology
Reviewed by Chet Entrekin

This book starts with the very basic principals of wireless communication starting with basics of what the electromagnetic spectrum is. Then moves on to AM, FM radio and TV broadcasting, then to cellular telephones and pagers, Bluetooth, wireless internet, and ending up with privacy, security and satellite communication. The style is clear and simple while giving the reader a real understanding of the basic underlining of what this complex information he is explaining; the illustrations are clean, clear and crisp.

He explains what WiFi is how it works in the corporate and home networks and what a Hot Spot is. And the basics of why security is so important to keeping the systems working and secure. With an explanation of how a cell phones identity can be stolen, and what is the most likely explanation of how Paris Hilton’s cell phone was hacked.

The chapters on how the internet works would make this book good reading for a person that is not interested in wireless communication. But is looking for good basic information on how the internet works including TCP/IP, E-Mail, the World Wide Web, and XML.

You will be able to amaze friends and children by knowing how wireless technology works. Each chapter is easy to understand, direct and user friendly.
