Over the past few years GPS technology has not only improved rapidly but is also becoming increasingly affordable. Today inexpensive handheld GPS are so easy to use that virtually anyone can use the device without any sort of training or instruction. These aspects have made such technology useful not only for use by the professional but also by the average person.
Unfortunately, mapping software and downloadable maps have not really kept up with rapidly advancing GPS technology. It is hard enough to find good software or maps of the area you want but usually once you’ve found these resources they are horribly expensive and difficult to actually use. More often that not, once you’ve purchased these resources you realize that the maps don’t completely cover the area you want or that the software isn’t compatible with your GPS system or existing software.
