We’ve all seen news stories on the flesh eating bacteria complete with grotesque pictures of human flesh infected with this bacteria as well as the disfiguring operations preformed on individuals while trying to save their lives. Tattered Flesh, Resilient Spirit is the author’s story of his battle with this terrifying condition.
With the help of his family and friends, the author details his experiences from first finding out that that little lump on his shoulder blade was actually flesh eating bacteria throughout his entire recovery process. Though the author was one of the lucky survivors of this horrible condition, his recovery did not go smoothly. During the first few months of this account, the author’s family was continually told to brace for the worse as the disease, organ failure, dehydration, and malnourishment threatened to destroy his body. Even once his body was stable and he was finally conscious, the author had to continually battle infection, pain, and disfigurement all while trying to regain his strength and learning how to walk once again.
I found Tattered Flesh, Resilient Spirit absolutely fascinating and utterly inspirational.
