Walking Away From Texas is a young adult story about a group of friends that find their lives changing in dramatic new ways after high school ends. Katie Mitchell and Alan Thomas have been best friends since kindergarten. They’ve been inseparable and have always been there for each other during various boyfriend-girlfriend related problems and break ups. Now faced with the reality that Alan will be going off to college in Florida and Katie will be staying in Texas for school, the two best friends are suddenly faced with a number of big changes and a lot of questions.

Walking Away From Texas illustrates the challenges of being a young person heading off to college, trying to determine who they are and what they want to do with their lives. Problems with relationships; the highs and lows of love; homesickness; and the ever constant worries about the future are explored by this group of friends. Together, these individuals realize that they will find their own way eventually. They just have to believe in themselves.
