Legend is the story of a young boy named Simon. Simon has had a happy childhood living along the banks of The White River with his loving mother and father. Unfortunately, tragedy strikes the family when Simon's father dies. Simon misses his father terribly. In a effort to comfort her son, Simon's mother tells the boy that his father is in Heaven and he will see him again someday. Simon becomes obsessed with this idea and decides to set out on a journey to find Heaven.

Legend is a children/ young preteen aged fantasy. There are lots of stories within the main plot keeping the action fairly constant and interesting. Many important life lessons are also explored within these confines. The characters that Simon meets are extremely varied with differing life experiences and points of view. These characters are simple but still challenge the notion of stereotypes leading readers towards further understanding of different lifestyles and cultures.
