These days, many Americans find themselves in jobs which they either hate or provide no fulfillment. Carve Your Own Road written by Jennifer and Joe Remling offer a new path based on Mindset on Clarity theory. This theory states that once you visualize yourself doing something successful, it builds neural pathways as actually doing them.
They write their book in two parts: The Journey and The Mindset of Clarity. In the beginning of the book, they describe how they made the dive into the dreams and the obstacles they encountered along the way. Both had great jobs but also included the trappings of the American Dream—both felt unfulfilled. Eventually, they worked for themselves which made all the difference. They also recognized that their initial dreams also evolved into much bigger ambitions throughout their journey.
The second part, Mindset of Clarity is a step-by-step portion which speaks directly to all readers with ambitions to reach clarity about goals (not necessarily only professional). Each aspect has an exercise and explanation as to why it is important and why it works in getting on the right path. The Mindset of Clarity is akin to Julia Cameron’s Artist’s Way methodology. Both are geared to getting individual’s on their given path to pursue their dreams and passions. One slightly organizational point in the book is the placement of some interviews. Many were placed between Jennifer and Joe’s story and the Mindset of Clarity. Adding the interviews interrupts a beautiful flow. Other than that, Carve Your Own Road is a great read for anyone thinking of pursuing their passion.
