It was a hot and muggy day late in August 1985 when Paul's friend Tom introduced him to a puppy in dire need of a home. Paul's last dog, Big Pal, had just been put to sleep days before and the last thing Paul was interested in was a new puppy.
Paul did end up taking the new puppy and named her Dobie. Behind her soft puppy eyes lay a lot of sadness and the bruises of very deep wounds. Dobie was an emotionally damaged dog afraid of the world but soon love would heal those wounds not only for Dobie but for Paul as well. Dobie brought with her the most valuable gift of all - unconditional love.
Over the years Dobie became one of Paul's closest friends and greatest teachers. Dobie would open his heart and change his world forever. Even throughout her declining years the love that shone in Dobie's eyes never dimmed and the lessons she left behind never forgotten.
Dobie The Canine Saint (Indie Excellence Finalist Book Awards) was written by Dr. Paul Greenbaum after the death of his beloved Dobie. Written to honor her life Paul never planned on putting this book into publication. I'm glad he changed his mind and decided to share Dobie's story with us.
I found Dobie's story an inspiring and touching book and recommend it to all dog lovers that share that special bond between canine and human. Dobie's story is a story that will stay with you long after you've turned the last page. It is a truly moving story and I really enjoyed getting to know Dobie throughout the pages of this book and the pictures included throughout. Dobie will indeed live on in the heart of every reader of this wonderful book.
