Another winner from Rachel Carrington. In This Life is the sequel to Choices and picks up right where the first ends. I highly recommend reading both.
Alexander Heath embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, going forward to present day from 1811. Armed with notes from his cousin’s new wife Carla, he makes the journey forward. Fulfilling his promise to find Carla’s sister, Diane O’hara, proves to be an adventure in itself. Once he comes face to face with the beautiful Diane, he knows the fates have worked in his favor.
Oppressed and ruled by her domineering parents, Diane has not yet learned to live her own life, even maneuvered into a loveless marriage by her parent’s desires. Now, she is a widow and mother of two young children. Emotionally scarred, she only has hazy memories of a sister she doesn’t know existed. Until the night Alexander Heath walks into her life.
I truly enjoyed the spirit of this book. Alexander is a wonderful hero. Ms. Carrington was able to weave an air of wonder and innocence around Alex without detracting from his masculinity. The world through his eyes is new and the mundane becomes exciting. As Diane helps him to understand his new time, she is forced to see things in a new light, allowing her to find herself as well.
I had a lot of fun reading this book and, as always, look forward to seeing more of Ms. Carrington’s work.
