In Ravenstone, the third installment of Deborah Cannon's trilogy featuring archaeologist Jake Lalonde, one is treated to a fast-paced adventure tale. I did not read the first two installments and I suspect my understanding and enjoyment of Ravenstone may  have suffered a bit as a result.

Nevertheless, Ms. Cannon knows her subject matter very well and has created characters that bring the suspense and action to life quite nicely.  Readers who enjoy a good adventure yarn with a mythic flavor would do well to read this, but don't make the same mistake I did; start with the first book, Raven's Pool and then read White Raven before savoring this one.
