Have you ever been in love with two men at the same time?
Mary Ann finds herself with the dilemma of having deep feelings for Robert, while she is in the midst of planning her wedding, to Brad. After a fight with Brad over the wedding plans, she leaves and finds herself on Robert’s doorstep. The time spent with Robert was wonderful and she agonizes over whether to reveal her true feelings for him. She realizes with sadness and regret at the end of the day that by not disclosing her feelings to Robert has brought her to a crossroads in her life. This choice would spin her down a path that would end up keeping Robert at arms distance and she would have to bury her feelings for him forever. Her marriage to Brad would lead her down an entirely different path.
Mary Ann and Brad seem to be the perfect couple for each other, each one complimenting the other perfectly. Robert, Brad and Mary Ann remained tight friends through the years, but when they decided to vacation together one year, everything changed. Mary Ann fell while on vacation and blacked out, but when she woke, she was no longer Brad’s wife. She was shocked to find herself in another world where she was married to Robert and had a child named Lydia. We often never get to undo our choices or to glimpse what life might be like if we had made different decisions along the way. This book takes you on a compelling journey that allows you to see a small glimpse into what might have been. Mary Ann begins a journey of self-discovery that explores her role as a friend, lover, and mother, and in the end she finally figures out who she really is and what is truly important. This book is compelling and thought provoking. I found the main characters to be entertaining, although the secondary characters were almost too shallow to be believable. It is an excellent read, with a unique storyline that will make you think more carefully about the choices you make everyday, that are often taken for granted.
