Another Thing To Fall

Another Thing To Fall
Laura Lippman
Wm. Morrow

Fiction, Romantic Suspense

Laura Lippman kept me guessing during the entire book.

This is one of the few mysteries I have read concerning actors, producers, writers and other people that it takes to make a movie. Their work is very interesting and really does take a lot of hard work from every one involved. That was one of the reasons I stayed interested in the story.

Baltimore, Maryland was a nice setting for her story to take place. I liked Tess Monagham and her quick mind. Taking a job as a bodyguard was new for a female and what a way for Tess to enter the plot, by being dumped into the river and almost run over by another boat.

Ms. Lippman did an excellent job explaining the movie business and her characters are all believable. Some are likeable and some are not, which keeps the tension and the character arc working.

How clever to have Selene, the spoiled brat, drug Tess. Who would have thought such a young girl would be capable of doing such a mean, despicable thing? Selene was a very interesting part of the story. She reminds one of Lola, who got any man or anything she wanted, and makes you hope for her downfall.

Grear and Lottie were such hard working, bright women it was surprising to learn that they were also sly and conniving.

Flip and Ben made good partners and friends, and completed the pairing for characterization, so we have the boys, the girls, good and evil.

The student was an added surprise and Mrs. Blossom sure was a great detective. I would have given her all A’s.

Tess really needed the help of Whitney to baby sit because she couldn’t keep up with Selene, and that made Whitney very likable and part of another pair. Poor Johnny Tampa. He is the stereotypical child actor who ages and gains weight, not a very unique or creative character.

The highlight of the book was when the two mothers got into a tussle and overturned the nicely set up buffet table. It made for a good laugh.

In conclusion, I must add that I have not read Laura’s book, “What The Dead Know,” so am not yet a Lippman fan. I guess I will have to go buy it. Nice going Laura!
