In his latest book aimed towards young people, Mr. O’Reilly continues along his successful track record of not failing to educate nor entertain. He and co-author Charles Flowers use a solid foundation of history coupled with a great sense of humor to best give the reader a fresh take on the American political system. They explore the various issues using terminology that kids can understand. This approach encourages the audience to think for themselves without seeming that the authors are coming out with a lecture. Mr. O’Reilly talks to them as young adults and as a result I can see the reader respecting him.
Organized in a logical fashion with highlighted sections, case examples, and multiple choice quizzes, this book will keep the reader turning pages. In addition Mr. O’Reilly uses current social and popular culture references, such as the hit TV show Pop Idol, Hillary Duff, The OC, to state his case. The book closes with a brief guide to the various terms he uses along with his personal contact details, which is a highlight as this is definitely not a common habit among authors. These additional resources coupled with his delightful ways of expressing himself, I feel, highlight his extensive experience as a former high school teacher.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and admired the frankness in Mr. O’Reilly’s approach. This is a valuable book for kids and adults alike and one that I could recommend whole heartedly.
