Reviewing this book was a delight .What’s not to like about redoing a well known old house and living on an Island. Old houses do have a history and Carolyn Hart made this one come to life. I enjoyed the process of remodeling as much as the mystery around it.
Getting into the story, she had a lot of characters to get used to and they all seemed capable of the murder of Gwen Jamison. They all needed money, including the owner of the large house and the valued gold eagle coins were stolen in the middle of the night. Gwen, having worked for the Grants who lived in the big house near her, even made one of her sons a suspect.
Ms. Hart will keep the reader guessing as another murder occurs, this time a real estate sales lady who also sees something that she shouldn’t have seen. The murderer gets more desperate as the story continues. Two million dollars for the coins that are now hidden in the Franklin house that Max and his wife Annie are planning to move into as soon as the remodeling is completed, is enough to make the many attempts to find the coins by the murderer exciting .
One can’t help loving Max (he cooks ) and Annie as they try to find the coins in their new home and help the police to find the murderer .They take too many chances in their quest and get shot at more then once. The handy man, Hal Porter, is supposed to be guarding the Franklin house, but he isn’t doing a very good job of it.
The conclusion will be a big surprise to the readers. The entire book will make it hard for anyone to be lured away until they have finished reading it. I hope it sells well for Carolyn to all the readers who love mysteries like I do.
