Richard Dudum set out to write a book that would get important information across to teen girls in a straightforward, no-nonsense manner. He succeeded admirably. While no one will mistake his effort for political correctness, the short, easily digested sections are perfect for the text-messaging generation that tends to avoid parental discussions and rely upon unverified information from peers.
The author covers the gamut from setting aside learned prejudices from parents and other adults so teens can see the uniqueness of other cultures/religions/races, to drinking safely (possibly the most important topic and one few want to touch), to how to tell your parents you screwed up (even to suggesting bookmarking that chapter and leaving it where parents will notice and read it as a preamble to the painful talk).
This is a good book for school and public libraries as well as for parents and concerned adults who want to get a useful gift for a teen in their life. I'm happy to add it to our collection at the Hartland Public Library.
