To many people writing seems to be a glamorous business. It’s easy: spend all day in your pajamas, words flowing freely from your fingertips until a bestselling novel is magically manifested. Then, sit back and enjoy all of the profits and accolades.
In reality, writing is like any other business endeavor. You have to know your target market. You have to know the rules of the game. Most importantly though you have to be committed to working on, improving upon, and continually promoting your efforts. Otherwise, your great idea will be lost amongst the other hopeful authors who publish every year.
I’ve read a lot of other books aimed at new authors. Most have nearly the same information as The Right Way to Write, Publish and Sell Your Book. However, I found the presentation style and the voice of this book really made a profound difference. In other books, I have found the focus to be on creating a bestselling novel and making a million dollars. Oftentimes, I actually feel a little duped that I have added to the author’s own dreams of becoming a bestseller. While reading The Right Way to Write, Publish and Sell Your Book, I felt that the author was more of a mentor. I got the distinct feeling that she felt that every book should be allowed to show its best possible face even if it wasn’t destined to be on the bestsellers list. I really appreciated that.
