Drs. Baker and Greenberg have written what I believe will be a very helpful book. Much of my professional experience has been in the mental health field and, as a medical librarian for most of that time, I recognize many of the observations and tools described in this book. Few are new or unique. However, the authors have described them so well and so smoothly that almost anyone can zip through this book more than once and gain different insights and awareness from each reading.
The authors stay true to their core message of positiveness throughout the book. While there are multiple anecdotes that have their basis in negative emotions or experiences, each one is viewed in light of healthy solutions. Things like having overcommitted moms look at themselves from their children's perspective might seem simple, but most women on such social hamster-wheels will never find enough of a break to try such role reversal. This book is full of such short and simple observations. It is written in a way that those most in need of reading it can sip a few pages between obligations and still 'get it'.
This is a book that will get a lot of use, both from my patrons and from others in libraries around the state via ILL. Definitely a good book for both libraries and those you know are not as happy campers as they deserve to be.
