Elvis Takes a Back Seat is the story of three seemingly different women who find themselves deeply connected and forever changed by a road trip to Memphis. Claudia is the young widow. She’s spent half of her life seeking approval and the other half taking care of others. She’s lost a lot in her life: her father, her mother, her child, and now her husband.
Her Aunt Rae has an adventurous soul. She’s only recently re-entered Claudia’s life. Her wild ways were in stark contrast to her sister, Claudia’s mother. However, in truth, it was her pain and her deeply hidden secrets that really kept her away for so very long.
Ivy is the teenage daughter of Ben, Claudia’s boss and her husband’s best friend. Ben and Ivy have gone it alone since Ivy’s mother abandoned them when the girl was little. Of late, the young girl wants to know about her mother but Ben just doesn’t know how to start that conversation. Ivy, doesn’t know how to tell her Dad that, at fifteen, she’s pregnant.
Elvis Takes a Back Seat is absolutely brilliantly written. Who knew that three women (and one man) could find themselves and each other on such an odd excursion, trying to find the real owner of a huge bust of Elvis. This book has everything a good read should have: some tears, a little witticism, meaningful connections, deeper self knowledge, a few good belly laughs, and hugs.
