This book's main character is Jeanne-Marie, a young girl who cannot do her Christmas shopping because she has chicken pox. She has to stay with her grandmother while her mother and other siblings go shopping. Her grandmother comes up with an idea for
her to make something for the family. The book provides lessons beyond that of gift giving, teaching values that important for all.
1) Grandmothers/extended family remains paramount.
2) The spirit of the season should NOT revolve around what one can afford to buy.
3) Gift from the heart, made by hand and thereby requiring some thought, are still very valuable.
I would have liked to see a full view of the tree at the end of the story, otherwise, well done.
