The Castro Gene

Todd Buchholz’s, The Castro Gene, is a well written, exciting novel about an ex-boxer named Luke Braden who goes from the bloody world of boxing into the world of stocks where one million is nothing. But his billionaire of a boss, Paul Tremont, isn’t the kind hearted soul he makes himself out to be to the public. Now Luke must save himself and those he cares about from a man who will stop at nothing to achieve his diabolic dream.

A mixture of the worlds of politics and stock markets, this fast paced novel shows some of the brutal sides hidden behind the smiling faces of rich men.  The characters are well developed, showing a range of emotions. You could almost believe them to be real.  Buchholz truly shows how deeply money can corrupt and just what some humans are willing to go through just to get it. He is able to show without stating the obvious how money can lead to absolute brutality, greed, and the lust for power. The Castro Gene could not have ended a better way and still been half as effective. The surprise twist at the end is wonderfully executed in a way that makes it almost yet not totally expected.
