Maggie Rogers’ quiet life as a librarian takes an unexpected turn when she stumbles onto the scene of a murder while walking home from work. In an attempt to flee for her own safety, she loses her wallet. The killer finds it and stalks Maggie, as well as her family and friends, throughout the book.
While working the case, Detective Troy Michaels falls in love with Maggie. Between the mystery and romance, neither really seems to make their mark. The dialogue and characters fall flat, which doesn’t make me care about them or their situation. Some spots have a lot of unnecessary detail which is redundant and doesn’t really move the story along.
The premise of this book is pretty good, but there are too many quick fixes, from the first murder to the non-surprising end. The conflict could’ve been drawn out and probably would have made for more enjoyable reading.
