The Shadow Within

I truly enjoyed this book, reading it over a three day span. What particularly impressed me was the author’s ability to divulge a major part of the plot about 1/3 of the way through the book without diminishing the tension and interest for the rest of the story. Another aspect that impressed me was the tangibility of the characters. Reese and Amber could easily have become caricatures, but never did.

The story starts when Jessie, a high school senior with stressful situations at home, literally trips over a new male student when trying to avoid conflict with Reese, the bullying football star whose locker is beside hers. Wesley Peterson is attractive and definitely different…in ways that Jessie will discover as the story unfolds. He and his twin brother not only have secrets, they involve Jessie and her best friend Annie in a lively supernatural adventure that is both riveting and neatly scary.

This is a book that both my YA readers and my adult readers of paranormal and fantasy fiction will enjoy and I consider it a nice addition to the Hartland Public Library collection.
