Twenty years ago, Bill Porter hijacked an airplane, but in order to save his own life from his double-crossing accomplice, he had to turn himself into authorities before ever getting to enjoy the millions in ransom money. Now, he’s just a few months away from getting out of prison, and he wants his money back. The problem is, he hid it in a place nearly impossible to reach, and he’s not a young man anymore. He needs someone who can retrieve the money for him, and rumors around the prison tell him of such a man. Known only to his clients as Falcon, Alexander Beck, is a thief for hire who prides himself on being able to obtain anything, from anywhere. When he receives an email using the code words asking to hire him, he’s intrigued by the job, and hops a plane to Central America. With unexpected delays and Bill’s former cellmate racing him for the cash, Falcon finds himself caught in a job more difficult than he imagined, and the most challenging part, working side by side with Bill’s beautiful and spirited daughter, Jamie.
In Treasure Hunt, the reader is presented with Falcon, the quintessential good thief, charismatic, highly skilled, and not out to hurt anyone unless forced. The kind-hearted purloiner is the driving force of the novel, and the scenes that feature him doing what he does best are by far the most interesting. The characters of the book are clear cut in their roles. The bad guys are wholly bad, the good guys wholly good, and there’s not much gray in between as even the hijacking was done for honorable reasons. It’s a simple formula, and for the most part, it works well in the story, but it would have been interesting to see some human flaws in the heroes. That aside, filled with fast-paced action, and some romance thrown in for good measure, Treasure Hunt is a tightly written adventure that keeps the pages turning.
