Fiction, Religious Thriller
Reviewed by Dr. Tami Brady

Brother Anthony suddenly disappears from the monastery one night while going to check on his latest restoration project, an oak crucifix dating from 1898. Though Brother Anthony appeared to be happy and content, many outsiders believed that the man had simply decided to leave the priesthood. After seven years with no clues in the case, everyone completely forgets about Brother Anthony’s disappearance.

Then, something unbelievable begins to happen at Saint Martin’s church. Parishioners of the church suddenly notice tears coming from the oculi (eyes) of Christ on the exact crucifix that Brother Anthony had restored just before his death. Is this miraculous occurrence a sign from God or the result of more sinister goings on?

The Oculi Incident explores both sides of miraculous occurrences. Such miracles renew the faith of many believers that have fallen from their faith. Increased parishioners and increased donations allow churches to refurbish lacking facilities and increase project that will help the community. However, such funds can also draw greed and in dire cases possibly even murder.
