Whitney Noland is a newspaper feature writer that has worked hard to make it to the top. Plagued by severe headaches, Whitney goes to her doctor. The diagnosis is bad, very bad, the worst. At a time when she should be enjoying her hard won career successes, Whitney now has to deal with the inevitability of death.
With strength, courage, and stubbornness that defines Whitney Noland, she takes on her final newspaper assignment. Whitney’s assignment is to pose as a student at a research facility that specializes in top secret cancer treatments. Rumors have surfaced the facility has discovered an actual working cure for cancer. However, strange accounts of staff suicides, missing persons, and homicides have also plagued the organization. Will Whitney find the story of the century or will she die trying?
The Fellow Servants is a very active, entertaining story with lots of depth. I like the added wrinkle of Whitney having cancer as it makes her circumstances less black and white and more human. I also thought that the tantalizing cat and mouse type relationship between Whitney and Dr. Kilvington added an intriguing dimension to the overall plot as well illustrating important characteristics of both individuals that made the story that much more captivating and realistic.
