Forge of the Gods

The inexplicable has happened: time has stopped in Heaven, causing the erstwhile immortals to begin aging.  What could have caused such an impossibility and how will it affect the various worlds?  Forge of the Gods follows the intertwining stories of several characters, both mortal and divine, as the gods seek the source of this disruption, and the mortals contend with treason and political intrigue on their own plane.

The thread of this story that appealed to me most was that of Areck.  As a squire of the Bre’Dmorian Knighthood, Areck is almost fanatically committed to not only the appearance of propriety, but also the etiquette and protocol that he, as a would-be knight, is expected to follow.  Time and again Areck faces tests of his resolve and commitment, and even of his faith in Starsgalt, the All-Father.  But perhaps more important than all of these things is the testing of Areck’s faith in himself.

On the other plane, we have the divine, both treacherous and benevolent, striving towards their own purposes, and with dramatic results.

My biggest complaint with this book was that my copy was replete with typos and tense confusions.  However, the publisher assures me that the errors are being corrected.  I would definitely have found a Dramatis Personae helpful, and it looks as if something like that will be forthcoming on the author’s site: www.ericfogle.com.
