Throughout his childhood, Andrew Sutter suffered at the abusive hands of his older brother, Tyler. Now adults, when Tyler sets his sadistic sights on Andrew’s lover, Devon Forsythe, Andrew’s only thought is to protect him, and he kills his brother. When Tyler returns from the grave, and opens the channels for Andrew’s magical abilities to come forth, not only does Andrew learn new secrets from his past, but one also from his present, that his partner Devon is actually a werewolf.
As the story begins with the Andrew only just gaining his powers, and Devon not even aware that he’s a werewolf, After Dark, is more about setting up the characters, and scratches the surface of the lore that is later explained in more detail in its sequel, After Midnight. The story is truly a dark romance filled with blood magic and gore, but for those looking for heated love scenes every five pages, After Dark is more about the conflict the two men are facing and their relationship outside of the bedroom, which is not necessarily a bad thing. There are two intimate scenes early in the book, one of which takes place after Andrew receives his powers and is able to see Devon in his werewolf form where he is intensely fascinated by his lover’s fur and tail, which he can feel but Devon cannot because he’s unaware of being a werewolf. After Dark ends rather abruptly, but this is probably because the author had intentions of continuing the tale in After Midnight.
