Without a doubt, one of Canada’s most important World War I victories was Vimy Ridge. Some historians even say that Vimy Ridge was where Canada became a nation rather than just a British colony. Suddenly, Canadian troops weren’t just seen as rabble rousers and farmers with guns but as respected soldiers with heart and the will to succeed in seemingly impossible missions.
At Vimy Ridge is filled with all sorts of useful resources. The author has included a bit of background on the training and beginnings of Canada’s World War I contribution as well as maps, photographs, and quotes from the Vimy Ridge action and those that fought so bravely there. Together, these resources give good insight into the mission as a whole and its importance to the war effort. As a Canadian, you can’t help but be proud and in awe of our Canadian relatives, friends, and neighbors who served and sacrificed so much for our freedom.
