Wading through the “shoulds”, the misconceptions, and the myths of dieting can often be frustrating. Trying to push past the feelings that going on a diet ultimately leads to failure tends to lead exactly where you thought you’d go- nowhere. Often the negative thoughts and predictions take over and become the sole focus. Disappointment isn’t far behind.
I Can looks at weight loss and taking care of personal health from a spiritual point of view. Like spiritual exploration and growth, learning how to take care of our bodies takes time and effort. To help in this somewhat difficult process, I Can breaks down all those diet myths and replaces them with more positive facts and strategies to get through the most difficult times.
Most importantly though, this book asks individuals to think one day at a time, “Just for today, I can do this.” Of all the advice given in these pages, I found this single phrase most significant and useful. Often trying to change my nutrition, exercise, and stress relief plan is extremely overwhelming and I end up giving up. But if I just focus on this day (or this hour or this minute during the really tough times), I have the courage to keep trying. Sounds like good advice for everything in my life.
