We all know the cycle. An employee starts a job with a spark of excitement. They are happy, productive, and willing to work hard to better themselves. After a while, however, something happens and production wanes. Some employees start looking for another job. Other employees decide to stay but just do enough not to get fired.
Engagement is Not Enough states that the key to keeping passionate employees is basically treating employees like real people, recognizing their skills, understanding how they work, and living up to their expectations. Yes, this should be common sense but how many employers have you had that actually treated you with respect? Most employers see their workers as a means to an end, profit. Dealing with personalities and flexibility seems like a waste of time and energy to them as they don’t realize that a happy employee is a productive devoted employee.
