Lisa Lambert is just going through life trying to forget about her ex when a sudden chance of luck lands her in the middle of a disturbing yet intriguing story. Sent by her secretive yet supportive boss, she finds herself in the beautiful town of Torrance. While she begins to understand quite quickly that her questions and presence are not welcomed, she stumbles upon a little girl in the woods that changes her life forever. While her world as she knows it slowly begins to blur between that of a new but darkly sinister existence.
Returning home, she doesn’t understand why her friends and family are distancing themselves from her. Suffering from what she just sums up as tired spells, she becomes alarmed as she catches certain smells that she can only describe as the smell of death around. Desperate to find out the truth of her changed behavior, she enlists the help of her boss Louis. Slowly but surely together they seek out the truth; the only concern now is whether or not they will be able to get there before Lisa is forever changed.
I really enjoyed reading this book as it definitely drug me into the suspenseful plot and mysterious drama. Ms. Salem has created a wonderfully entertaining story filled with unexpected twists and turns; definitely a book that I would recommend whenever you are in the mood for something out of the ordinary.
