Welcome to the Vines a hip urban nightclub that caters to exclusive tastes and where the top Vintage on the wine list is blood. The modern urban scene is littered with humans whose blood is tainted from drug use and disease. The vampires that feed on the wrong victims die from tainted blood and it is spreading like an epidemic. The vines cater to anyone who wants to pay and pay highly for disease free blood. Regan is like fresh meat being dangled in a den of lions when she walks through the door of the club. Half vampire, half human she has the reputation of being a formidable vampire hunter. Hired by the club manager, Selena, Regan is investigating a series of unusual deaths surrounding the club and trying to ascertain where the club is getting its ample supply of fresh product. She is waylaid in the cloakroom by the club’s bartender who fills out his clothes in all the right ways. Their intense sexual encounter definitely gives her job some interesting perks.
The story is fast paced; the sex scenes are raw and pure expressions of lust. The characters are believable but a little weak. The bartender is a little too “Duh” about what is going on in the club or what he is serving to be cast believably in that role. The vampire hunter, Regan character is really interesting and could be developed beautifully; but there were more clichés describing her actions and abilities instead of developing her personality. Overall, it was a really good read, an excellent story idea, with a fascinating premise until the end where it is a little weak.
Several steamy hot sexual encounters with passion and raw sexuality with a stranger does not make a profession of love ring true, at least not when it happens all in the same night.
