Wild Fire

Reviewed by Ross Malde

Nelson DeMille is once again headed for the top of the best seller list with his latest novel, Wild Fire. The extremely fast reading 519 pages brought to me enough suspense where I found myself bracing in my chair while simultaneously chuckling at DeMille’s irreverent humor.

The story is set one year after the tragic assault of 911 when John Corey, an ex-New York Detective since working as a special contract agent for the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force, and Kate Mayfield, his wife and coincidentally his boss, enter an investigation of a missing colleague. The missing person case evolves into a murder case as the two begin putting together clues that place them in the middle of something much bigger and more sinister involving suitcase nukes, high tech systems and high political influences.

The very pleasing John Corey and Kate Mayfield are fully developed by DeMille’s well crafted dialog which not only propels the reader through the complex story line that defines modern evil but also allows the reader to understand some of the inner thought differences between men and women even when they are both working in extreme conditions. It is a book with many levels of enjoyment that have obviously been well researched and well crafted.
