A Look Inside by Von Soltwedel is an intense collection of poetry about drugs and the crumbling life. It is a dark side, of what the poet talks about being stuck between “heaven and hell” in his own “prison cell”, “mainly being ( though it sounds ) poisoned by the world around” and some poems go into the deep conclusion of cutting to ease the pain.
You have to read through the first couple pages before you enjoy the whole of the poems. At first it doesn’t seem very interesting, but as the poems go on you’re drawn in deeper to this place and it takes effect. In this collection he rhymes and sometimes it’s annoying because it seems forced - but other times it hits the spot really well and he does a good job on it ( anyone who can rhyme and get away with it as if they didn’t has done an excellent job! )
I think this collection of poetry is strong in the chronicle world of a depressed, bi-polar person. And he portrays dark and horrid nightmares well! He wraps the book up very well, leaving you thinking of what would happen. My favorite poems are : Loneliness, Crimson, Woman ( which is a really dark poem about how, the poet puts it, women are- it’s so deep and emotional. Though the next poem “Sealed With A Kiss”, talks about the poet finding love and getting married, this too is a really good poem in a loving sweet and soft way! ), Hallway- to name just a few! I enjoyed this collection of poetry. I would recommend it!
