Poetry (Rhymed)
Reviewed by John Thompson

Window Sill Wisdom by Georgeann Smith is a collection to devour page by page with an open mind. There are some poems in this book that really stick out to me, that I’ve enjoyed and they climbed inside my emotion cavity! Though a lot of them have, it’s just that these drew deeper : “The Promise”, which is about a lover who goes away and she waits from him to come back. “Who’s the Loser”, which is about someone cheating and she sees it know.  “Having It All”, which is a really good poem, my favorite in the book, about being on a ship… that’s all I’ll say of this one because it’s so good I don’t want to ruin any of it! and “My Darling Friend”, which is so simple and in the beginning – it seems so odd, the first thing it asks and the answer it reveals gave me goose bumps and sadness.

A lot of the poetry in this book is heartfelt and emotional and hopeful. You can easily relate to the realness. Other poems are about holidays and family. It brings forth the soft but sad and happy life experiences, and even a few which I thought were classy were about writers block and not being able to think a thought… though at the end, what is real and what is fake.

She uses a lot of different rhyme techniques, and some are really good and are really amazing to read, but others seemed forced and not very though-out. She also centered every poem in the book, which may not be a bad thing, but I like to see creativity in the visual structure, so that bugged me some.  In the end, I enjoyed this insightful door to the poets thoughts and mind. There might have been some flaws and even some poems I thought were really good but could have been better and had an urge to edit them… but with a lot of the better poems, it’s an easy thing to ignore.
