In this book, Daivd W. Powell takes us through his traumatic experiences of serving and surviving his tour in the US Marines during the Vietnam War as well as the unfortunate aftermath the experience left upon his life. Assisted by real photos and maps, he describes a hellish situation that most people I’m sure are unaware of when talking about this previous time in history.
Traumatized beyond his understanding by this experience, following his tour he drifted from situation to situation losing those that mattered most to him. After years of unhappiness and a lack of fulfillment, he came across the Traumatic Incident Reduction technique which helped him bring his life together.
Mr. Powell needs to be commended on his immense courage in bringing these much needed topics to the light for further discussion and exploration. While I would have like to have seen the Traumatic Incident Reduction technique further discussed in detail, the major points were covered. I feel that his story can serve as an inspiration to others who are going through similar situations upon their return back from the numerous conflicts throughout the world. As our loved ones continue to serve the country, we must learn how to better support them upon their return home. I strongly recommend this book in serving as the vital first step.
