Avenging Dreams and Other Curious Occupations
Patrick Welch
Double Dragon Publishing
ISBN: 1-55404-377-8
Fiction, Dark Fantasy, Suspense, Thriller
Reviewed by Eugen M. Bacon

What if the spirit world had access to one’s mundane life? What if they could root right into the heart of dreams and threaten to kill in more ways than one in order to demonstrate their own manner of death? What if vengeance is what they seek and one’s only friend, a pub “transvestite”, is one hell of a medium named Ed O’Banion?

Beautiful cover graphics prepare one for this novel. And, having read Patrick Welch’s Insurance Fallacy, a Brendell preview, I did not need much convincing. Avenging Dreams starts explosively and maintains that tempo with ever impressive dialogue in this new angle of ghost stories and spirit catchers. Greg Alamos is a private dick. The spirits out to hire him are fraught enough to tousle him up to white, spaghetti hair if only to keep him involved. How good their payment but how weird their demands that renown seers take one look at Greg Alamos, and toss him out the door! Once reluctant, Greg is getting increasingly involved and risking way more than his neck. This collection, discrete yet connected, treks a rather entertaining road. Fine suspense and a laugh or two.
