Shortly before the Battle of Gettysburg during the United States Civil War, Johnny and Melody meet and fall in love. Though she is from the North and he is from the South and day to day life is tentative at best, they decide they want to get married and build a life together. Fate intervenes, however, and Melody is left a grief-stricken widow with a child on the way.
At the beginning of the 21st Century, Harmony believes she is on her dream path to success in a career she loves and has been working towards all her life- until the day she spies an old farm in Pennsylvania that borders on the field where the Battle of Gettysburg took place. As the story progresses, she not only rediscovers her old love of farming, but she also soon finds that her fate is intertwined with that of Johnny and Melody from 150 years before.
Jonna L. Miller’s Haunting for Time is an ambitious tale that contains many interesting characters over the span of 150 years. Once the real story begins (several chapters in), it is an intriguing historical tale. Despite some of the loose ends, and the heavy dependence on narrative and the passive voice, there were enough interesting characters and twists to keep me engaged to the end of the book. This would be a good novel for a Civil War historian to read.
