The Red Canyon Tribe is destroyed by dragons. Aleea, the oldest of twelve children of a healing family has a vision. Although her family, friends, tribe mates, and all that she knows is gone forever she will one day belong to another tribe. The young girl is ill trained and far from ready to become a leader. This is a role she played at in her old life thinking that she’d never get the chance in adulthood.
Lady’s Daughter is the first book of the Children of the Desert Moon series. Thus the first portion is heavy on detailing the cultural norms of this land, outlining the problems associated with this civilization, and introducing the reader to the various characters. Though quite detailed, these introductions are made in short easy to process spurts interspersed with various problems (natural, physical, emotional, and cultural obstacles) that each of the very different characters must face in order to begin their journey As all of the characters are young adults, each must learn for him or herself how to define who they are, how to survive, and what is right and wrong. As the book progresses these struggles take more meaningful shape as the children gradually come together and the storylines intermesh.
