Randall Andrews lives in a community where the company his Dad works for owns everything. This company is extremely strict and makes all the rules. In fact, it is against the community code to even have a garage sale.
One man causes a chain of chaos. He has quit the company and has plans to leave the neighbourhood so in a final act of rebellion, he holds a garage sale. This man also gives young Randall a pair of sandals which get the boy in a good deal of trouble. Randall gets in trouble at school because the sandals do not conform to the school dress code. Then, trouble snowballs when the boy gets suspended from school for saying the name “Jesus” and quoting scripture.
Randall’s Sandals reminds us that issues are not always black and white. It also challenges us to consider that political correctness may not necessarily be the right answer in all situations as someone is always going to be offended.
