Conqueror’s Quest
Stephen Gambuti
Double Dragon Publishing
ISBN: 1-55404-366-2
Fiction, Science Fiction
Reviewed by Eugen M. Bacon

Double Dragon Publishing is renowned for commanding cover graphics. Conqueror’s Quest is no exception. The powerful image of a dracosaur and its rider draws one slap into expectation.

Crows and Sapiens; one forbidden love affair. Plenda is an alien Sapien. Dorman is a native Crow to whom the Emperor’s daughter is betrothed. Disaster strikes when Plenda finds herself with child, and Dorman is imprisoned, little able to use his powers until opportune moments strike. Abstract action propels the narrative. Perhaps a lot more could have been done on characters and dialogue to reinforce the novel but strength lies in concept, tidy writing, surge of events, impending and actual launch of fleets that carry pilgrims to Solar, and description of place. Not omitting, of course, fascination of reptile dracosaurs who understand the language of native Crows.
