This story tells of a contemplative woman who gets rid of the bad boyfriend, Jack, in hopes of finding herself wrapped back inside the arms of the good and noble boyfriend George. The only catch is that she has to take care of Jack before she can begin her journey across the country to find George in Seattle. While he does not know that she has him back in her sights, she is determined to love him, as a good girl should.
Things with Jack ended up with him lying dead in the trunk of the car. Teetering between love and hate emotions for the corpse in the back and anxious to get away from Hurricane Katrina, she finds her mind and grasp of reality slowly slipping away. Along this three-day ordeal, she finds herself befriending a chicken, fantasizing about the dorky but potentially hot hotel clerk, and gets caught masturbating by an old man doing the same thing as they both watch a couple make love in the dark. With a surprise return trip home to her parents where memories of the past flood through her, she continues to keep her eye on the prize of reclaiming George.
It goes without saying that this is a darkly twisted slightly erotic story that opens up a Pandora’s box of sorts regarding self-reflection. Showing that there is a fine line between sanity in crimes of passion, I have to commend the author on all the creative detail added to create this rather consuming drama. If you feel like experiencing the darker side of obsession, this could very well be the book for you.
